he Adobe x Terminator challenge is meant to allow video editors to work on Hollywood-grade footage and to let them piece together a trailer based off their creative thinking. Adobe provides you the footage and a 1 minute worth of dialogue, it is up to the editor to create the sound design and music for the trailer, all under 1 minute.
After reviewing the items given, I realized it would be really difficult to tell the story clearly all within a minute, even the original trailer itself needed more than 2 minutes just to get the point around. My best chance was to keep the dialogue concise and to rely more on the music to create tension and action. I started the trailer off by introducing the two new main characters and used the rising tension in the soundtrack to implement the dialogue. I then cut off the dialogue and focused more on foley and cutting scenes to the beat of the soundtrack.
This is by far the section I'm most proud of. The music synchronized with the cuts and it visually helped build up the tension and action I was looking for. While adding foley, I kept in mind the volume of each sound I added. I did not want the sound effects to sound obnoxiously loud, which would take away the momentum the soundtrack was building up. Therefore, I kept each foley sound subtle and matched up the sounds perfect as to how it would have sounded in the actual movie. I also used to my advantage the bass drops in the soundtrack and utilized them with the explosion scenes I was given and layed explosion foley underneath.
